Intermediate Pottery Wheel Course
In this intermediate level 3-week course, potters will continue to explore working with clay and the next level of wheel thrown pottery. The focus in this course is for returning students to learn and practice the steps of the pottery making process. Ages 8+ Welcome. (We do not recommend children younger than this age to attend.)
What you’ll learn:
1st Class:
- Work with earthenware clay and practice wedging
- How to center more amounts of clay on the wheel
- Get 3 attempts to throw a cylinder, plate, or mug with handle
2nd Class:
- Learn how to trim and carve greenware with sgraffito techniques
- Learn how to attach clay accessories to your pieces and pull handles
3rd Class:
- Explore glazes to add splatter, sponging, and layered designs
- Use tools of the trade, how to properly clean equipment, and reclaim clay practices
Supplies: Materials included. Additional clay available for purchase if needed.
Please Note: You may repeat the course as many times as you wish to practice your skills. Pieces made during class must be finished during class time and picked up after final firing. We do not hold pieces past 30 days.
Each 2-hour class meets once a week for three consecutive weeks.
September Session: Tuesday 6-8pm.
