Beginner Pottery Wheel Class

Beginner Pottery Wheel Class

Explore earthenware clay and learn the basics of wheel thrown pottery in this ongoing weekly class. The focus is to learn and practice the steps of the pottery making process of working with clay on the potter’s wheel. Beginners and returning students may practice skills in each stage of the process from start to finish during multiple class sessions.

What you can learn in the process:

  • How to work with earthenware clay and practice wedging
  • How to properly center clay and attempt to throw a pot, cup, bowl, or dish
  • How to trim and carve greenware with tools to smooth your pieces
  • Understand glaze techniques to add color and the kiln firing process
  • Learn how to properly clean equipment and reclaim clay practices
  • Make projects from clay start to final glaze glossy finish over multiple sessions

Ages: 8+ (We do not recommend children under this age to attend this class. We have other clay classes just for kids that they may attend.)

Length: 2 hours

Meets:

  • Every Saturday morning 10am-12pm
  • 1st and 3rd Sundays 12-2pm

Supplies: Shared Tools, Studio Glazes and 3 lbs. of clay included. Additional clay is available for purchase if needed.

***Please note: Pottery is a multi-step process that requires time and effort. It will take at least 3 sessions for you to finish multiple pieces. You may repeat this class as many times as you wish to learn and practice the techniques with instructor-led assistance.

(Drop-ins are welcome to try it out- but nothing is kept unless you book another session to continue working through the process of making pottery.)
