Advanced Pottery Wheel Course
This 3-week course is for potters who have had experience working with clay on the pottery wheel. This class is great for students who have taken our Intermediate Pottery Wheel Course and feel comfortable moving on to the next level of project skill building and technique practice. The focus during this course is to raise higher walls and make intricate shapes with clay to create a lidded jar or vessel. Ages 16+ Welcome.
What you’ll learn:
1st Class:
- How to work with more clay and practice wedging
- How to center your clay on the wheel with more speed
- Get 2 attempts to throw a lidded jar vessel.
2nd Class:
- Learn techniques to trim, smooth, and carve greenware with various tools
- Understand the firing process and difference between Bisque, Earthenware, and Stoneware
3rd Class:
- Explore glazes to add designs and color to your pieces
- Learn tools of the trade, how to properly clean equipment, and reclaim clay practices
Supplies: Materials included. Additional clay available for purchase if needed.
Please Note: You may repeat the course as many times as you wish to practice your skills. Pieces made during class must be finished during class time and picked up after final firing. We do not hold pieces past 30 days.
Each 2-hour class meets once a week for three consecutive weeks on Thursdays 6-8pm.
