Intro to the Pottery Wheel Course

In this introductory 3-week course, you will explore working with clay and the basics of wheel thrown pottery. No prior experience is needed! The focus in this course is learning the steps of the pottery making process and getting familiar with working with clay on the potter’s wheel. 

What you’ll learn:

1st Class:

• How to work with earthenware clay and practice wedging
• How to center your clay on the wheel and attempt to throw a small pot, cup, bowl, or dish

2nd Class:

• More throwing practice
• Trim, smooth, and carve greenware with various tools
• Understand the firing process and difference between Bisque, Earthenware, and Stoneware

3rd Class:

• Explore glazes to add designs and color to your pieces
• Learn tools of the trade, how to properly clean equipment, and reclaim clay practices

Supplies: Materials included. Additional clay available for purchase if needed.
